Remarks:
When the probe is fully inserted into the tail, the fore finger is used to mark the spot on the shaft of the probe to determine the depth. The probe is then pulled out of the tail and then laid on top of the tail simulating the depth it was able to pass, and the number of subcaudals scales spanned by that depth is noted.
